Highest quality performing arts training provided by our team of expert teachers

For Pre-School children we offer Ballet, Introduction to Tap and Modern, and Acrobatics classes. Our Pre-school pupils follow the Royal Academy of Dance Pre-School Dance Curriculum and work to achieve both levels 1 and 2 along with our dance and drama awards DDA in bronze, silver, and gold.

Age 5+

For our pupils age 5 and above we offer Ballet, Tap, Modern, Acrobatics, Commercial, Contemporary, Competition classes and Performance Teams. Our pupils follow carefully structured syllabi to achieve graded qualifications ranging from Pre-Primary to Grade 8 level.

Our pre-professional students study at vocational level with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance achieving dance qualifications from Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2 Level. These qualifications are fully recognised and can be converted to UCAS points upon application to university.

Diploma Course

Our Diploma students study the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE). This course enables our graduates to progress to a career in teaching dance as a fully qualified dance practitioner with the ability to enter students for examinations with the ISTD.

Our Classes

Our students follow the Royal Academy of Dance examinations syllabus within their ballet classes. We are also the first and only school in the UK to offer American Ballet Theatre classes and examinations. Our graduates have toured with famous ballet companies worldwide such as Ballet Central, Ballet Theatre UK, Orlando Ballet and Matthew Bourne. We are an affiliate school of the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House.

Our Tap and Modern classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance examination syllabus. We are proud to be an Approved Dance Centre with the ISTD offering examinations from beginner level through to the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE) Previous tap and modern students have progressed to careers in prestigious west end shows, dance teaching contracts and world cruises.

Acrobatics, Aerial Arts + Tumbling

Our Acrobatics classes work towards achieving medals, awards and statuettes at our DDA award sessions. We have an 8m inflatable Tumble Track, Aerial Rig with Silks and Aerial Hoop/Lyra, and crash mats to help students develop their tricks and skills in these classes. Previous acrobatics, Aerial arts and tumbling students have toured the world in Circuses and performed in events and shows worldwide.

My daughter has been attending JVS for 6 years and she loves it here. Having started aged 2 the classes have helped her make friends and grow in confidence in addition to teaching her dance. The place is professionally ran but has a real family feel, and the annual show is a sight to see. 100% recommended.

Commercal at JVS is an exciting and upbeat class that takes inspiration from dance often seen in the media e.g. Music videos and backing dancing. There is a focus on dynamic movement, expression and core strength throughout the classes, using music from the charts to create a challenging yet fun atmosphere.

Contemporary classes at JVS are centered around strong release based technique, encouraging students to let go of tension in their bodies whilst maintaining a strong core base and connection with the floor. Experimenting with new choreography and concepts brings the students to a fresh understanding of technique and expression.

Our Drama students perform in events and competitions locally throughout the year and study towards examinations with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts LAMDA.

At JVS all of our students are given the opportunity to take part in competitions if they wish. We compete in Solo, Duet, Trio, Quartet, Group and Troupe categories in both local festivals and 'All England' qualifying festivals with students moving forward to the semi-finals and finals.

We have had alumni continue their progression in competitions as far as the Genee International Ballet Competition Finals and the BBC Young Dancer  Finals.

At JVS we pride ourselves on being able to nurture technically sound dancers that can perform on stage with confidence and are successful to the highest standards in examinations.

Alongside holding our annual performance at a local theatre we also create other unique National and International performing opportunities for all our students. Past performances have taken place at various prestigious venues including:

Her Majestys Theatre

The Royal Albert Hall
